This year is all about sportwear: whether it’s the American Masters being dominated by female fashion or Wimbledon’s fashion icons from Pippa Middleton to Serena Williams – who wore what she called ‘sports vintage’ picking items from her favourite sports outfits over the past decade, sports fashion is dominating, like Federer over Murray.

The hot colours for women this year are fuchsia, orange and white. Michelle Wie, the golfer, is wearing a predominantly fuchsia palette this year – team a bright pink or magenta camisole with white capris or a white skirt to get the look yourself, and coordinate it with converse trainers in fuchsia or orange.

Accessories are sports related. At the Masters, women were wearing golf tees in their hair, and pom-poms in tennis ball colours appeared on hair bands worn at Wimbledon. Sports bags this year are tote style and white and have large bold images. Pac-man, variations of the Nike swoosh and the Olympic rings are all proving popular and coordinate in colour with those bright T-shirts.

White is ever-present and white polo-shirts are a classic look, being worn this year with coloured denim and either platform trainers or converse. Flip-flops are hardly featuring this year which might be because of the weather or could be because the beach look is hardly making a blip on the fashion landscape.

Public figures and their clothes have been totally in the spotlight this week. Piers Morgan has admitted that he’s become ‘much more conscious’ of his appearance since he took on his CNN show, which is suffering poor ratings. The former newspaper editor claims that it doesn’t matter how well the interviews on his show go, people ‘come up afterwards and say, ‘What was going on with your hair?’’

It’s probably time for him to look at his fitted suits and formal shirts and consider a more relaxed look of crisp chinos and a polo-shirt as Americans seem to find him ‘stuffy’.

Kate and Wills showed us that they can do the formal look as well as their more relaxed casual appearance with baseball hats and sweatshirts. Pippa Middleton’s bridesmaid dress wowed the crowds, but it wasn’t a new look – Cameron Diaz wore the same Alexander McQueen gown in public in 2009, except in red.  And Pippa’s  casual capris and soft shirt outfit, photographed on leaving the hotel the day after the ceremony have already sparked a run on the shops …
