2010 is the year to get your clothing organised – make a resolution to be neater, smarter and cooler in the way you choose, buy and organise your clothing and not only will you look better, you’ll save money!
To make your resolution work, choose a single colour to be your base or signature shade: this has to be a neutral colour such as grey, black, blue or beige.
When you’ve chosen your base colour, buy trousers and jackets in that colour and T-shirts, polo-shirts and other tops in complementary or contrasting colours. This ensures that one half of your wardrobe (the trousers and jackets) always works with the other half.
Contrasting colours offer a strong effect – yellow T-shirts with blue jackets, blue hoodies with beige chinos etc. On the other hand, complementary colours offer a calming unifying effect – blue sweatshirts with grey jog pants or grey tops with black trousers.
By having a base colour you don’t end up with items in your wardrobe that can only be worn with one or two other things – instead all your clothing works with all the rest of it.
If you’re not confident about choosing clothes, always go for white on the upper body and grey on the lower, such as a white T-shirt and grey trousers – while this is a classic choice that doesn’t attract much attention, and won’t make you stand out from the crowd, it also always looks good, works for nearly every situation, and never offends.
